Photo Contest Rules

The 2020 Carolina Alpaca Celebration show is coming up on February 15 &  16, 2020.  Now is your chance to show off your favorite alpaca picture and prove your photographic skills! So dig out your best pictures because we will be giving away ribbons for the top three (3) placements in each category, for Judge’s Choice and Best in Show chosen by the public. All entries will be displayed at the show. The judging will be done by Jason Evans of Evans Photography in Pageland, South Carolina.


  1. Alpaca(s) Interacting: at least one (1) alpaca interacting with other animals (including other alpacas), humans or inanimate objects.
  2. Black and White: must include at least one (1) alpaca and have artistic merit.
  3. Computer Enhanced: Use your computer skills and imagination to enhance that favorite alpaca photo with a computer graphics program. [Computer enhanced photos DO NOT include photos taken with warming, cooling, polarizing, diffusing, softening or neutral density filters.]
  4. Cria: A pre-weanling alpaca caught in that special moment.
  5. Farm Scene: Your picturesque farm photo that includes at least one (1) alpaca.
  6. Humor: Those alpaca photos that just make you laugh.
  7. Youth: Any alpaca photo taken by a young person, age 16 or below.

Competition Rules

  1. All photos must include at least one (1) alpaca.
  2. Submitted photos must be a 5″ x 7″.  Submitted photos must be printed with a glossy or matte finish only, all others will be disqualified.  No foam board matted photo’s allowed.
  3. Photos entered in the competition have no time limit. However, photos published in any advertising materials or median, on websites, or winning photos of the AOBA Nationals and/or photos used in Alpaca Magazine are not eligible.
  4. Permission to publish these photos is granted by virtue of entering this contest. All rights are released to Carolina Alpaca Breeders and Owners (CABO).
  5. Up to two (2) photos per person per category (except Youth) are allowed.
  6. Up to three (3) photos per person for the Youth category are allowed.  Winning photos will receive 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons in each category; a Judge’s Choice ribbon will be awarded and a Best in Show (chosen by the public) ribbon will be awarded.
  7. All are welcome to enter photos in the contest.
  8. ALL entries must be postmarked by February 1, 2020.
  9. All photos will be judged for content, composition, creativity and how well they depict the category. Contest Judge reserves the right to re-categorize a photo if it is determined, in the Judge’s sole discretion, that the photo was entered in the wrong category.
  10. Winning entries become the property of CABO and will not be returned to the Exhibitor/ Photographer. All entries will be published on CABO’s website and may appear in other print materials at the sole discretion of CABO. Non-winning entries may be picked up at the show AFTER 2:00PM Sunday February 16, 2020.

The entry fee per photo is $12.00. There is no fee for photos entered in the Youth
category. An entry form must be completed for EACH photo. Checks are to be made
payable to CABO.
